Frequent Situations regarding Surrenders

Q - I need to find a new home for a cat that was originally adopted from Crestwood Animal Shelter. Can Crestwood Animal Shelter help? 

A - Most likely yes. We will need to evaluate the situation. Please submit our Surrender Questionnaire, which you can find below.

Q - I just found a feral kitten (or mother cat with kittens) in my yard or at my business. Will Crestwood Animal Shelter accept this feral cat /kittens?  

A - No. Unfortunately, our shelter is too small for the complex needs these animals require. Please refer to this link for more suggestions on who might be able to help. 

Q - I rescued a mother cat and her kittens and have been caring for them several weeks. I now need to surrender them all? Will Crestwood Animal Shelter take them?  

A - If the mother and kittens were just found, most likely not. Unfortunately our shelter is too small for the complex needs they require. However, if you have invested time and money giving them good care, we might be able to help.  There is no guarantee, but we would need to assess the situation. Please submit our Surrender Questionnaire, which you can find below.

Q - Our family unit is disrupted because a family member became allergic to the cat or conflicts have arisen between the cat and other pets in the family. Can Crestwood Animal Shelter help? 

A - First, please get advice from your veterinarian and family doctor to make sure all health and behavior issues have been addressed. Other resources to guide you through behavior issues may be found at Tenth Life Cat Rescue's website, https://tenthlifecats.org/behavior/. If all of these solutions have failed, our shelter will review a Surrender Questionnaire submission, See below. (There is no guarantee that your cat will be accepted).

Q - A family member has passed away or is moving into a long-term care facility and has left a cat(s) behind. Can you take the cat(s)? 

A - A Crestwood Animal Shelter Volunteer will review a Surrender Questionnaire submission as described in the following section. Please note that a family member or friend who can take care of the cat’s needs in the meantime is the best temporary solution while our shelter determines if we can accept the surrender. If there are multiple cats to surrender, we can normally only take in one cat due to our size; however, describe the situation in detail in your Surrender Questionnaire. Continue to seek other alternatives while our review proceeds.
