Volunteering

Crestwood Animal Shelter is an all volunteer organization!

Our shelter succeeds through the dedicated teamwork of our diverse community of volunteers. We are united in our common mission to improve the lives and welfare of our furry friends.  We each bring our unique talents to the task in ways that our own busy schedules permit. There is much to be done, so please consider joining us.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. In the case of families, teenagers may participate if accompanied by an older volunteer/parent, subject to manager approval.

On a continuing daily basis, the shelter houses on-site a number of cats being prepared for or ready for adoption. Our volunteer program has three main areas of interest:

Cleaning and care of cats -

Cleaning requires volunteers to consistently show up either for a morning or evening shift on a regular ongoing basis with a typical commitment of 2-3 hours each week or every other week. Cleaning volunteers provide daily feeding, cleaning, medical care, and valuable human stimulation/playtime for the cats.

Socializing cats for their new homes -

Socializing requires volunteers to dedicate an hour or two each week or every other week to provide human stimulation, playtime, and grooming care to the cats and kittens. These shifts require availability in the mid morning or mid afternoon.

Shelter operations -

Volunteers also respond to visitors' phone calls, texts, and emails inquiring about adoptions, seeking information, and reporting lost or found animals.  In addition, members of the shelter team host visitor appointments to meet and greet our animals, arrange adoptions, staff adoption events, transport animals to and from vet visits or other shelters, wash animal laundry (towels, bedding, etc.) weekly, raise funds through donations and events, write grants, maintain social media/websites, manage the business details, maintain animal records, bake cookies for everyone else, repair things when they break, etc.

Due to the small size of our shelter and our 100% volunteer crew we are not setup at this time to accept volunteer requests to fulfill court-ordered volunteer orders. Please reach out to the larger shelters like APA and Humane Society to see if they have available programs.

Unfortunately, at the present time our shelter does not have dogs available for adoption. This does not mean that we do not support the welfare of dogs in need; however, our small shelter does not have the staff and/or fiscal resources at present to adequately support the housing and training of dogs on a 24/7 basis. Instead, we strive to be a referral center to other shelters capable of dog care and training. Should you be seeking a volunteer opportunity to work with and for dogs, there are many other shelters that will welcome your interest.  We strongly encourage you to find your volunteer spot. There is great need.

Our furry friends need your time and special skills.  Please consider volunteering with us!

Please complete our Volunteer Application located here or via the link below.  By completing the application you are not committing to anything nor is CAS.  The application will allow you to tell us more about your interest in volunteering or just let us know you would like to learn more.  We look forward to receiving your application and hope you will be joining our team.

Thank you.
